2. Description
The Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) is the leading technical and scientific public body of the Italian National Health Service. Its activities include research, control, training and consultation in the interest of public health protection. Fifteen departments represent the organizational structure of the ISS. With regard to human medicines, the following Departments are involved: Therapeutic Research and Medicines Evaluation; Infectious, Parasitic and Immune-Mediated Diseases; Cell Biology and Neurosciences; Center for Immunobiologicals Research and Evaluation; National Blood Centre; National Centre for Epidemiology, Surveillance and Health Promotion. The latter Centre includes the Pharmacoepidemiology Unit.
